Editing Styles And Conventions

There are three main types of editing, these are broken down into the following;

soviet montage

soviet montage was created in the 1920's soviet montage was created because they but two unrelated images together to create a third image. this is a very obvious form of editing, it is not subtle.

Hollywood montage

a Hollywood montage shows time from the beginning to the end of a particular sequence. this allows all of the information to be shown but it pinpoints the best parts of the film to tell the story.

Continuity editing

Continuity editing is where there is a continuous edit throughout the film, this could be the 180 degrees rule, so that the audience does not get confused. Continuity editing ensures that the editing is smooth and subtle so that there is not obvious editing. A good example of this would be an apple in the left hand, 5 hours later and a different shot the apple would still be in the same had as not to disorientate the audience.
